How to Check If My Credit Card Has Lounge Access (India 2026 Rules)
Planning a trip and counting on that free airport meal and comfy sofa? Hold on — airport lounge rules in India changed on April 1, 2026, and “having a Platinum card” is no longer enough.
Now banks decide access based on how much you spent last quarter. If you show up without checking, you could get turned away at the door.
Here’s a quick, practical guide on how to check if my credit card has lounge access in just 2 minutes.
1. Do This 2-Minute Check at Home
A. Open your bank app
This is the easiest method. Apps like HDFC PayZapp, ICICI iMobile, or SBI Card now have a “Lounge Visit Tracker” under Card Benefits or Rewards. It tells you exactly how many free visits you have left this quarter.
B. Look for the logo on your card
Flip your card over:
DreamFolks → Domestic lounges in India
Priority Pass → International lounges
LoungeKey → International lounges
C. Search your SMS or email
Banks now send an alert when you hit the spend milestone. Search your inbox for “Lounge Voucher” or “Milestone Reached” to confirm.
2. The 2026 Changes Most People Miss
RuPay Platinum cards: NPCI stopped complimentary lounge access on most RuPay Platinum debit cards. Unless your bank has a special deal, you’ll be charged the full price.
Spend-based access: Cards like HDFC Regalia, ICICI Coral, and Axis Airtel now require ₹35,000–₹50,000 in spends during the previous calendar quarter to unlock access for the next one.
Voucher system: HDFC and SBI have moved away from swiping. You must generate a QR code or voucher inside the app and show it at the lounge desk.
3. Checking Eligibility at the Airport
The ₹2 validation swipe
At the reception, they’ll swipe your card for a small validation fee:
Visa/RuPay → ₹2 (non-refundable)
Mastercard → ₹25 (usually refunded in a few days)
Guest access rules
Most cards only cover the primary cardholder. If you’re using a card for your spouse or a friend, check if add-on access is allowed — otherwise you could pay ₹1,500+ for the guest.
4. Why Was My Card Rejected?
If the machine says Transaction Declined, it’s usually one of these:
You didn’t meet the minimum spend in the last 3 months
International or online transactions are turned OFF in your app
You’ve already used your quarterly quota (typically 2 visits)
Pro Tip
If your current card no longer gives free access under the new 2026 rules, consider upgrading. Some premium cards still offer unlimited lounge access with no spend requirement.
